MPRB and Green Cities Accord Claim They Are Planting Trees in “Disadvantaged areas”… I Extracted the Data and It Turns Out…

They’re Full of Shit

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Forestry Department has refused to make their tree inventory public, due to the fact that they don’t want you to investigate any trees planted for carbon offsets. Before I dive into the Voluntary Carbon Offset market for CO2e, I’m going to explain how I got this data.

City Forest Credits a.k.a. the Urban Forest Carbon Registry, is essentially a forester, a wall street lawyer, a former Hennepin County Forestry staffer, and a bunch of people who see an opportunity to get rich, while also selling incredibly low-quality offsets to Xcel Energy, Winslow Capital (hedge fund), Centerpoint, U.S. Bank…basically all the places you hate.
